5 Ideas For The Interested This Week

5 Ideas For The Interested This Week

You don’t have to do “all the things” to succeed as a creator.

I don’t.

And it hasn’t stopped me from building a large audience and strong business around my creations.

Here’s a list of things I ignore.

(In case you want permission to ignore them too.)

Now, on to this week’s ideas…

1. 23 Examples Of Clever Pinned Tweets

“Not only is his pinned tweet clever, it’s also a format you could get away with updating only once a year.”

If you use Twitter, you absolutely should have a pinned tweet. But the question is, what should you do with it?

In this post I share 23 examples of clever pinned tweets based on the pinned tweets of some of the most successful creators on Twitter.

You’ll discover creative ways to promote your work, your other tweets, and use a pinned tweet to connect with a community.

2. 15 Psychological Tactics You Can Use To Get People To Buy More

“Once someone owns an item, forgoing it feels like a loss.”

There are so many reasons why people buy (or don’t) and the more of them you understand, the more of your product or service you’ll be able to sell.

Janel Loi shares 15 psychological tactics you can use to get people to buy more including ways to nudge buyers, maximize perceived discounts, and create a sense of urgency.

3. How To Write An Award-Winning, Bestselling First Book

“This is a seven-step guide. It’s guaranteed to work.”

Nathan Filer won the Costa Book Prize for his first novel and then put together this TED Talk to share how he did it…and how you can too.

In a 14-minute video, he breaks down how to write an award-winning first book including how to set specific goals, be prepared to fail, and be flexible in how you get there.

4. How To Estimate How Much You’ll Earn From A Membership Program

“You can get a decent sense of this by calculating your total addressable audience, and then using industry benchmarks for membership conversion to come up with a reasonable target.”

This was written for news organizations, but it provides a strong framework for how to estimate the potential of any membership or subscription product you offer.

The Membership Puzzle Project explains how to estimate how much you’ll earn from a membership program including how to calculate your total addressable audience, estimate monthly site traffic, and set targets to convert free subscribers into paid members.

5. Key Lessons From The First 18 Months Of A Startup

“End every conversation with an expert about your industry with: ‘Why do you think I am going to fail?’”

There’s a lot of smart stuff in this one you can apply to any project you start from scratch.

Suhail Doshi shares key lessons from the first 18 months of a startup including that learning from users is a practiced skill, to be married to the problem — not the technology, and that you don’t need to persuade everyone.

My Final Words Of The Week

This week I came across a letter I sent to my parents from overnight camp when I was a kid.

Apparently you can make a future writer write, but you can’t control what he writes.

Have a great week!
